MARC MCCORMACK FROM EAST LOTHIAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN PRESTONPANS

Marc McCormack, a resident of East Lothian, has been found guilty of engaging in a series of domestic abuse incidents against his partner at their shared home in Prestonpans. The case, which has garnered significant attention, reveals a pattern of manipulative and aggressive behavior that culminated in physical violence and emotional control.

According to court records, McCormack, aged 36, subjected his partner to ongoing harassment, including aggressive actions and invasive monitoring of her mobile phone throughout their relationship. The victim reported that McCormack’s behavior was not only controlling but also physically abusive on multiple occasions. One such incident involved him forcibly grabbing her by the shoulders, which escalated to him striking a wall at their residence located on McLachlan Gardens in Prestonpans.

Further details from the court proceedings indicate that McCormack’s aggression was not limited to a single event. On a second occasion, he forcibly opened a door at the same property, seized the woman by her arm, and shook her, demonstrating a pattern of threatening and violent conduct. These incidents took place over a period stretching from October 1, 2019, to April 30 of this year, highlighting a sustained period of domestic turmoil.

McCormack admitted to the charges during his appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month. The charges, which were amended prior to his plea, reflect the severity of his actions. Last Wednesday, he returned to court for sentencing, where Sheriff Iain Nicol imposed a community payback order. Under this order, McCormack will be supervised by social work authorities for a duration of 24 months, emphasizing the rehabilitative approach taken by the court.

In addition to the community supervision, Sheriff Nicol issued a non-harassment order, prohibiting McCormack from approaching or contacting the victim for the next two years. This measure aims to protect the woman from further intimidation or harm. The court also mandated that McCormack attend sessions with the Caledonian Men’s Project, a domestic abuse organization, to address and modify his behavior towards women. These steps reflect the court’s recognition of the need for intervention and behavioral change in cases of domestic violence.
