The victims of Manuel Mancilla Williams, a convicted sex offender from Launceston, have come forward to describe the devastating impact his abusive actions have had on their lives, effectively robbing them of their childhoods.Williams, aged 30 and residing on Madford Lane in Launceston, appeared before Truro Crown Court to face sentencing after admitting to multiple serious sexual offenses involving minors.
Prosecutor Joss Ticehurst provided a detailed account of Williams' misconduct, revealing that when he was under the age of 16, he engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young girl aged between seven and nine.
This conduct involved touching her private parts, an act that left lasting scars on the victim.
She later confided in her mother, expressing feelings of manipulation and fear that prevented her from speaking out at the time.
Williams, in his police statement, denied the allegations, asserting that he never touched her private areas, a claim that was challenged by the victim’s account.
The court also heard that when Williams was 21 years old, he committed another grave offense by forcing a sexual act on a boy under 13.
During this incident, he threatened the young victim to silence, warning him not to tell anyone about what had transpired.
These actions have left deep emotional wounds on the victims, who have spoken openly about the profound and enduring effects of his abuse.
The girl, now an adult, described how the trauma had shattered her ability to trust others and left her feeling unsafe in her daily life.
She emphasized that she required ongoing counseling to help her cope with the emotional aftermath.
The boy, meanwhile, shared that his self-esteem was severely damaged, and he felt as though his childhood had been stolen from him.
Both victims’ statements underscored the long-term harm caused by Williams’ actions.
During the court proceedings, Williams was portrayed as a troubled individual who expressed remorse for his conduct.
It was noted that he has no prior convictions, but his actions warranted significant punishment.
The judge sentenced him to a total of 85 months in prison, with an additional 12 months added to his sentence.
Furthermore, Williams will be registered as a sex offender for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
