In July 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Malcolm Young, a resident of East Woodburn in Northumberland, who became the subject of a serious criminal investigation after attempting to purchase a child-like sex doll online. Young's actions first drew the attention of Northumbria Police in 2017 when he tried to import a 100cm, flat-chested sex doll from China. The import was intercepted by Border Force officials, who, recognizing the potential implications, promptly alerted local detectives about the suspicious package. This intervention set in motion a detailed investigation into Young's activities.

Following the interception, law enforcement officers visited Young’s residence in East Woodburn to question him about the purchase. During the visit, they seized his computer and mobile phone for further examination. The review of these electronic devices revealed a shocking discovery: indecent images of children that Young had attempted to delete from his system. The images were clearly identifiable and indicated a disturbing pattern of behavior.

Malcolm Young, aged 60 at the time, was subsequently charged with four counts of making indecent images of children. Additionally, he faced a charge of tax evasion related to the purchase of the doll, which was part of the broader investigation into his activities.
