MALCOLM THOMPSON SENTENCED IN LOWER EARLEY FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In a case that has shocked the community of Lower Earley, Malcolm Thompson, a 67-year-old resident of Brompton Close, was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison following his conviction on multiple serious charges. The offences, which spanned nearly two decades from 1980 to 1999, involved heinous acts committed against two young girls under the age of 13, as well as the possession and creation of indecent images of children.

Thompson was brought to trial at Reading Crown Court, where a jury unanimously found him guilty of seven counts of sexual assault on a child under 13. The trial lasted five days, during which evidence was presented that detailed the disturbing nature of his crimes. The court heard that the assaults took place over a lengthy period, involving two female victims in the Reading area, which is close to Lower Earley, where Thompson resided.

In addition to the sexual assault charges, Thompson admitted to the possession of indecent images of children and the making of such images, further highlighting the severity of his criminal behavior. The court also found him guilty of possessing an offensive weapon, adding to the list of his convictions.

The judge sentenced Thompson to eight years in prison for the sexual offences, complemented by an additional year on extended licence, ensuring close monitoring of his conduct upon release. The sentencing reflects the gravity of his crimes and the impact on the victims, as well as the community’s concern over safeguarding children from such predatory behavior.
