VIOLENT RAPIST SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR THREATENING AND TYING UP LOVER IN LOWER EARLEY
A man convicted of violently assaulting his partner and threatening her life has been sentenced to six years in prison.Ian Rogers, shown in images, attacked a 48-year-old woman at her residence in Lower Earley in March, constricting her throat with a piece of fabric so tightly that it caused bruising and left her fearing for her life.
During the court case at Reading Crown Court, prosecutor Nick Rimmer detailed how Rogers had subjected the woman, whom he claimed to love, to ongoing abuse since they met through a dating website in June 2007.
The court heard that Rogers frequently asked her to marry him, became distressed when his messages or calls were not returned, and even composed poems for her.
The first significant dispute happened in October 2007 when Rogers broke a car window.
In January 2008, after the woman said something that upset him, Rogers threatened her, saying: “You are going to die.” He later used a cord from her dressing gown to tie her to the bed and threatened to use a scalpel to cut her arms.
The defendant described their volatile relationship, which included incidents such as shattering a wine glass against a wall, forcing her to perform oral sex, and coercing her into sex under the threat of killing her.
He also confined her inside the house and tied a cord around her neck.
Rogers was detained shortly after presenting himself at police with cuts and bruises.
During the trial, he pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and one count of making a threat to kill.
The court sentenced him to six years behind bars, with eligibility for release only when authorities determine he no longer poses a threat to society.
