BRADFORD CHILD SEX OFFENDER MALCOLM DELANEY FROM QUEENSBURY SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bradford and the nearby area of Queensbury, Malcolm Delaney, a 59-year-old man residing on Roper Lane in Queensbury, has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to multiple serious charges involving the sexual exploitation of children.Delaney’s offenses, which spanned over a period of more than two years, included causing or inciting children under the age of 13 to engage in sexual acts. The charges were brought to light after one of his young victims confided in her mother about the abuse, prompting an investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of behavior.
According to court records, Delaney pleaded guilty to seven counts of causing or inciting children under 13 to participate in sexual activities. These incidents occurred during specific periods: two between January 1 and December 31, 2009; another two between January 1 and December 1, 2010; and three between January 1 and April 7, 2011. The nature of the offenses involved forcing or encouraging children to perform sexual acts on each other, a revelation that has deeply unsettled the local community.
During the hearing at Bradford Crown Court, prosecutor John Gregg detailed the case, emphasizing that Delaney’s offending was uncovered after a victim disclosed her ordeal to her mother. The court was told that Delaney vehemently denied any illegal activity during police interviews, claiming he was innocent of the charges. His defense lawyer, Nigel Jamieson, argued that Delaney had no previous convictions and requested the court to consider a pre-sentence report to better understand his background and potential for rehabilitation.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC did not mince words when addressing Delaney’s actions. He described the offenses as “truly appalling” and condemned the defendant’s lack of understanding of the harm caused. The judge stated, “You have pleaded guilty to seven counts of causing or inciting children under 13 to engage in sexual activity for your own perverted reasons.”
In addition to the prison sentence, Delaney was subjected to a sexual offences prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender, obligations that will follow him beyond his time behind bars. The judge also highlighted the disturbing nature of Delaney’s “deep and dark” paedophile tendencies, indicating a profound concern for public safety.
Delaney’s appearance during the hearing was relatively subdued; he wore a white polo shirt, dark trousers, and a dark jacket. He was granted bail pending his sentencing scheduled for June 15, 2012, at Bradford Crown Court. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated, reflecting the community’s demand for justice and protection of vulnerable children from predators like Malcolm Delaney.
