MACAULAY TOMLIN FROM BUSHEY FACES COURT AFTER SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN WATFORD

In January 2018, a man from Bushey, identified as Macaulay Tomlin, found himself in a legal limbo as he awaited sentencing for serious sexual offenses involving a minor. The case, which had initially been scheduled for January 3 at St Albans Crown Court, was postponed by the presiding judge, Judge Stephen Warner, who cited the need to review an additional psychological report that had not been previously provided to the defense.

Tomlin, aged 22 and residing on Bournehall Avenue in Bushey, had earlier pleaded guilty on September 28 of the previous year to engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl. His admissions included acts of intercourse, oral sex, and masturbation during a video call with the young victim. Despite his guilty plea, the court proceedings were delayed as the judge expressed concern over the defense’s reliance on a psychological report that was not available at the time of the initial hearing. Judge Warner emphasized the significance of this report, noting Tomlin’s learning difficulties and a history of fragile mental health, which could influence the case’s outcome.

The rescheduled sentencing hearing was set for January 8, allowing the court additional time to consider the psychological evidence. During the proceedings, prosecutor Paul Fairley detailed the disturbing nature of Tomlin’s interactions with the girl. He recounted that after the victim distanced herself from Tomlin, he expressed malicious wishes, including telling her he “hopes she gets raped.”

The court was informed that the relationship between Tomlin and the girl began in early 2016. Their contact escalated when Tomlin initiated a late-night video call, during which he asked if she had a boyfriend. When she responded that she was only 14, Tomlin then asked if she wanted to see his penis. She declined, stating she was not interested. Despite her refusal, Tomlin’s phone was seen to shake as he masturbated during the call, and the girl could see this on her screen. Her responses to his messages became increasingly sparse after this incident.

Further disturbing details revealed that Tomlin continued to send explicit images of himself, even while the girl was in a relationship with another person. Their communication eventually ceased after one of them blocked the other. However, later that year, Tomlin reinitiated contact after spotting her at a barbershop in Watford. He resumed messaging her, professing love and eventually engaging in sexual activity with her on multiple occasions, including one instance of oral sex.

The victim’s emotional distress was evident as she described sitting in tears and feeling overwhelmed by the situation. Tomlin’s reaction to her withdrawal was aggressive; he expressed his hostility by wishing her harm and admitted that his primary interest was sexual gratification. Prosecutors characterized his behavior as grooming, highlighting the manipulative and predatory nature of his actions.

At present, Macaulay Tomlin has been granted bail under strict conditions. He is prohibited from contacting the victim, visiting her school, or engaging with anyone under the age of 16 until his next court appearance. The case continues to draw attention to the serious issues of grooming and exploitation involving minors in the Watford and Bushey areas.
