LUKE BIRBECK FROM HEYSHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN PRESTON

In a recent court ruling, a young man from Heysham, identified as Luke Birbeck, has been sentenced to serve more than two years in a youth offenders institution following his admission to engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The incident in question took place in Heysham, and the court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the case.

Birbeck, aged 19 at the time of sentencing, appeared before Preston Crown Court on Monday, 25th March. He pleaded guilty to charges of sexual activity with a child, which led to his sentencing. In addition to the prison term, he has been ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure intended to ensure ongoing supervision and protection of the community.

The events leading to his conviction occurred on the 9th of June, 2012, at a residence in Heysham. At that time, Birbeck was 18 years old. The victim, a girl who had just celebrated her 14th birthday the week prior, was subjected to sexual acts by Birbeck during this incident. The court heard that the girl was vulnerable due to her age and had explicitly expressed her unwillingness to engage in any sexual activity, a fact that Birbeck was fully aware of.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Brian Shepherd of Lancaster CID issued a statement emphasizing the gravity of the offense. He highlighted that Birbeck was aware of the victim’s age and her vulnerability but chose to proceed regardless. The detective also pointed out that the victim was psychologically affected by Birbeck’s actions, which have had a lasting impact on her well-being.

DC Shepherd further commented on the role alcohol played in the incident, warning that such substances can impair judgment and lead to exploitative behavior. He urged the public to recognize the seriousness with which the courts treat such offenses, noting that offenders are likely to face strict supervision and registration requirements.
