LOGAN CRANHAM FROM ATWORTH SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN SWINDON

In April 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Logan Cranham, a resident of Fleetwood Rise in Atworth, near Melksham, who was found guilty of heinous crimes related to child abuse and possession of a vast collection of illegal images. The case revealed a pattern of disturbing behavior that shocked the local community and highlighted the severity of the offenses committed.

Logan Cranham was accused of sexually abusing a young girl on two separate occasions. The victim, who was a minor at the time, reported feeling “uncomfortable and weird” during the incidents. It was only after she learned about the concepts of “good and bad touching” at school that she was able to understand and recognize what had happened to her. The emotional and psychological impact on her was profound, and her family expressed their distress during the court proceedings.

Following the allegations, law enforcement officers swiftly intervened. Cranham was arrested and taken into custody. During the police interview, he chose to remain silent, refusing to comment on the charges. When officers demanded access to his electronic devices, Cranham initially refused to provide passwords. However, investigators eventually managed to unlock his laptop and phone, uncovering a disturbing collection of nearly 2,500 child abuse images. The digital library included ten videos and 24 images classified as Category A, indicating the most severe and explicit material.

The images depicted children as young as three years old, alongside other disturbing content such as a teenage girl restrained by her wrists and ankles. Further examination revealed a structured folder system, with search terms used to filter through the illicit material. The devices were password protected, but the authorities successfully bypassed these security measures to access the incriminating content.

Initially, Cranham faced multiple serious charges, including two counts of assaulting a child by penetration and six counts of making indecent images. He entered a plea of not guilty at first, but on what was scheduled to be the first day of his trial in February, he changed his plea to guilty. The victim had already been cross-examined in a pre-recorded Section 28 hearing, which allowed the court to proceed with sentencing based on the evidence presented.

On April 26, at Swindon Crown Court, Judge Peter Crabtree delivered the sentence. He stated that the gravity of Cranham’s offenses warranted immediate custody, emphasizing the seriousness of the crimes committed. Cranham, now 20 years old, was sentenced to two years and ten months in a young offenders’ institution. The prosecution, led by Rob Welling, highlighted that the victim had enough awareness to recognize that Cranham’s actions were wrong and harmful.

During the proceedings, a victim personal statement was read aloud, provided by the girl’s mother. The statement detailed the profound emotional toll the abuse had taken on the young girl and her family. The victim had become quieter, more irritable, and lost interest in activities she previously enjoyed. Her parents expressed feelings of guilt and helplessness, describing how the trauma had caused them anxiety and difficulty trusting others. They conveyed their fears about the long-term impact of the abuse on their daughter’s future.

Judge Crabtree also addressed Cranham’s denial of sexual attraction to the girl, describing it as “of some concern.” A probation report indicated that while Cranham was considered at a low risk of reoffending, he still posed a potential danger to children. As part of his sentence, Cranham received a third off for the two sexual assault charges because they occurred when he was a juvenile. Additionally, he was granted a discount of just over 5 percent for his guilty plea on the day of trial.

Furthermore, Cranham was ordered to comply with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his contact with minors and limits his internet use. He is also required to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the community from future harm.
