LLYR JONES FROM WITNEY SENTENCED FOR OVER 200 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN SHOCKING CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Witney, Llyr Jones, a 29-year-old resident of Langdale Gate, was found guilty of possessing a large collection of indecent images depicting children being subjected to horrific abuse. The case was heard at Oxford Crown Court, where the severity of his actions was laid bare to the court and the public alike.

On Thursday, Judge Peter Ross delivered his verdict, sentencing Jones to nine months in prison, but with the sentence suspended for two years. The judge expressed his belief that Jones deserved to be incarcerated immediately, citing the gravity of his offences and the harm caused to innocent children. However, considering Jones’s expressed desire to seek treatment for his problematic behavior, the judge opted for a more lenient approach, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation.

During the sentencing, Judge Ross made a poignant statement, highlighting the global scale of child abuse and the disturbing role that illegal images play in perpetuating this heinous trade. He stated, “At this very moment, all over the world, mainly in the Third World, there are children who are being abused in the way in which are described in the images that are reflected in this case. Children are raped, children are tortured and abused, and the images circulated so that paedophiles like you can satisfy their sexual desires. These are real children being raped. It’s an appalling trade and these children’s lives will be utterly blighted by what has happened to them.”

Judge Ross also pointed out the stark contrast between Jones’s privileged position and the suffering of the children depicted in the images, remarking, “You have all the privileges of a qualified person with a good job in the Western world. It’s a stark contrast.”

Details of the police investigation revealed that officers executed a raid on Jones’s home early in the morning, around 6:20 am on May 12. During the search, they seized his Dell laptop and Western Digital USB drive. The investigation uncovered that Jones had downloaded a total of 247 indecent images, which he accessed through online searches and activity on a site used by sex offenders to share illegal material. Despite the evidence, Jones initially denied viewing the children being abused and claimed he did not have any images on his computer during police interviews.

Jones, who has no prior criminal record, admitted to nine counts of making indecent photographs of children and two counts of possessing a prohibited image of a child. His defense team argued that his offending was linked to turning to alcohol after losing his job, but acknowledged that his actions were fundamentally wrong. As part of his sentence, Jones is required to sign the sex offenders register, participate in a 60-day internet sex offenders treatment program, and complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Additionally, he is subject to an eight-year sexual harm prevention order, and he must pay a victim surcharge along with £150 in court costs.
