DONCASTER WOMAN LISA THORPE JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF PARTNER
Lisa Thorpe, aged 33, received a prison sentence of four and a half years after being convicted of manslaughter in connection with the death of her partner, John Poole. The incident took place in November at her home in Bentley, near Doncaster, where she stabbed Mr.
Poole in the calf during a heated argument.
The Sheffield Crown Court was told that the stabbing followed Mr.
Poole threatening her with a knife and attempting to kill her by placing the weapon at her throat.
Thorpe initially claimed she found Mr.
Poole outside her house and was unaware of how he was injured, but she later admitted that she had stabbed him in self-defense.
According to her testimony, she stabbed Mr.
Poole to prevent him from harming her further after he became violent.
She retrieved the knife from his leg and called for medical assistance.
During her court statement, Thorpe described the assault: "He pulled me by the hair and said, 'You're a slag, I'm going to kill you.' He had a knife at my throat, I punched him, causing him to fall backwards onto the settee, where he dropped the knife.
He then pulled me down and repeatedly hit me in the back of the head.
I grabbed the knife and stabbed him in his leg." Initially, her police statement claimed she had found Mr.
Poole outside her residence and was unaware of how he was stabbed, but police investigations later proved this account false.
Court reports indicated that both Thorpe and Poole had been drinking throughout the day, and that an accusation by Mr.
Poole that Thorpe was seeing another man led to a violent confrontation.
Evidence presented during the hearings included photographs and police testimonies about the incident.
After sentencing, authorities confirmed that her earlier claim blaming a third party was untrue.
The case underscores the serious dangers of domestic violence, with the defendant receiving a four and a half-year term for manslaughter.
