LISA GLENDINNING SENTENCED IN ARMAGH FOR ANIMAL ABUSE
Lisa Glendinning, born on 23 February 1984 and residing at 13 Marlborough Park, Lurgan, Craigavon BT66 8NL, was convicted in 2022 for keeping animals in deplorable conditions. She was found to have kept 15 dogs, three fish, and a bird at her residence in Russell Drive, Lurgan, all in 'squalid' and unhygienic circumstances. Among these animals was the carcass of a bird, which was decaying inside a cage.Glendinning was convicted of causing unnecessary suffering and failing to ensure animal welfare, violating Sections 4 and 9 of the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011. The case arose after a complaint was received in October 2020 about her care of animals at her property. An Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Animal Welfare Officer attempted multiple visits to her property, leaving a No Access Card, but received no response.
On November 11, 2020, the officer obtained a warrant to access the property and found multiple animals kept in poor condition. Following a veterinary assessment, 15 dogs, three fish, and a bird were removed from the premises due to suffering. Most of the dogs had matted coats, and some required dental treatment. Glendinning did not engage with the officer and failed to attend a formal interview regarding the matter.
In sentencing, Glendinning received a six-month custodial sentence for the section 4 offence and a three-month custodial sentence for the section 9 offence. These sentences are to run concurrently and are suspended for two years. Additionally, she was disqualified from keeping animals for a period of 10 years. This case was reported by ArmaghI.
