LINDSEY SIM FROM BARNSTAPLE BANNED FOR FIVE YEARS AFTER HORSE NEGLECT IN DEVON
Lindsey Sim, a resident of Shearford Close in Barnstaple, has been officially prohibited from keeping horses for a period of five years following a serious case of animal neglect involving her three equines. The case, which drew attention from local animal welfare authorities, was brought to light after veterinary inspections revealed the dire condition of her horses, Kelly, Malibu, and Blaze.Sim, born around 1986, was involved with the North Devon Equine Rescue, a charity that has faced scrutiny over its management and animal care standards. She was photographed alongside Ann Sim, the owner of the rescue organization, who herself was banned from keeping horses for a decade in February 2020. The association between the two raised concerns about the oversight and welfare practices within the charity.
Following a thorough investigation initiated by the RSPCA, Lindsey Sim faced charges related to neglect and failure to provide adequate care for her horses. The veterinary assessments uncovered alarming conditions: Kelly was found to be severely emaciated, suffering from malnutrition and an untreated parasitic infection, indicating a neglect of basic health needs. The other two horses, Blaze, a young foal, and Malibu, a grey pony, were also found to be in distress due to inadequate care and attention.
Sim admitted to the allegations, acknowledging her failure to meet the essential needs of her animals. The court proceedings resulted in her being sentenced to six rehabilitation days, along with fines and costs totaling £240. Additionally, she received a ban from keeping horses, which will last for five years. However, she retains the right to appeal this decision after three years, with the ban set to expire in August 2025.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare standards in the region and underscores the importance of strict enforcement of animal care laws to prevent such neglect in the future.
