LINDSAY AND JACOB WRIGHT BUSTED FOR ILLEGAL DOG BREEDING IN DARLINGTON
Lindsay Anne Wright, born on August 22, 1982, and her son Jacob Wright, born around 2006, residents of North Road in Darlington, have been convicted in connection with illegal dog breeding activities. The case against the mother and son unfolded after an investigation by the licensing team from Darlington Borough Council, which uncovered their repeated sale of puppies through online platforms.
According to court proceedings, the Wrights had been actively involved in selling litters of puppies across various breeds, including popular types such as cocker spaniels and Belgian Malinois.
These sales had been ongoing since April 2022, and the pair had managed to generate substantial profits from their activities, amounting to thousands of pounds.
The court heard that their operations were conducted without the necessary licensing, which is a breach of legal requirements for dog breeding and sales.
Despite their absence from the courtroom, Lindsay and Jacob Wright were found guilty of carrying out a licensable activity—specifically, breeding and selling dogs—without holding the appropriate license.
This act is a violation of Section 13(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, which mandates licensing for such activities to ensure animal welfare standards are maintained.
In terms of sentencing, the court imposed a fine of £1,100 on the Wrights.
Additionally, they were ordered to pay £150 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £440.
As part of the penalties, both Lindsay and Jacob Wright are now prohibited from keeping any animals for a period of five years, a ban that will remain in effect until July 2029.
This ruling aims to prevent any future illegal breeding activities and to protect animal welfare in the Darlington area.
