BRISTOL OFFICER CHARGED WITH RAPE FOR 2016 INCIDENT
A serving Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) has been charged with rape, following an investigation.
Liam McCormack, 41, who is based in Bristol, has been charged with the rape of a woman in South Gloucestershire in December 2016.
He will appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on 14 July.
Avon and Somerset Police announced that McCormack had been suspended since December 2021, after the incident was reported by a third party.
The police clarified that McCormack was off-duty at the time of the alleged offence, and an investigation was launched immediately upon the report.
A file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which approved the charge.
Additionally, a referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which deemed a local investigation appropriate.
The police force's Professional Standards Department is also conducting an inquiry into potential breaches of professional behaviour standards.
