COUNTY DURHAM TEEN CAUGHT TRYING TO CORRUPT UNDERAGE GIRLS WITH EXPLICIT IMAGES
A teenager, Liam Hurst, attempted to persuade what he believed were three underage girls, aged between 11 and 13, to send him explicit images over a six-day period, a court heard.
Hurst was arrested after paedophile-hunting group STOP alerted police to his online activities in September last year.
He had been trying to convince an online profile, which was a decoy created by STOP and did not represent a real person, to send intimate photos, including an image of himself performing a sex act.
Hurst maintained the exchanges over days and sought further explicit images, asking questions about sexual activities and even mentioning the possibility of meeting.
He admitted to asking for images from the girls he thought he was communicating with.
He was found guilty of three counts of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity and one of causing a child under 13 to watch sexual activity.
Hurst, now 20, of Rowley Fields, Leicestershire, received an 18-month prison sentence suspended for two years, during which he must complete rehabilitation activity days, unpaid work, and be subject to notification as a sex offender and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for ten years.
