DUNDEE APPRENTICE PLACED ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER FOR UNWANTED KISS OUTSIDE AURA NIGHTCLUB
A Dundee apprentice has been added to the sex offenders register following an incident where he forcibly kissed a woman against her will.Lewis Sivewright, who admitted to the sexual assault committed in October, was involved outside Aura nightclub on South Ward Road.
There, he approached a woman with whom he had been discussing wristbands to gain entry into the club.
After engaging in conversation, Sivewright, from Perth Road in Dundee, attempted to kiss her without consent by turning her head and planting a kiss on her mouth.
Nearby police officers responded quickly and took him into custody.
Currently, he is under supervision.
During the hearing, fiscal depute Lana Norrie explained that the assault occurred around 10:30 pm on October 21, 2023.
She stated that the woman, the complainant, was present at Aura nightclub when Sivewright, who was outside with a friend, approached her.
The discussion revolved around wristbands for the club, but it progressed to Sivewright trying to persuade the woman to kiss him.
He then attempted to take her face and directed her to look at him before kissing her on the mouth.
The incident was reported by staff members, leading to police intervention.
Sivewright’s lawyer, Gary McIlravey, argued that his client had been drinking while out with friends.
He explained that the encounter involved some banter and that Sivewright had exchanged Snapchat details with the woman.
According to McIlravey, Sivewright asked for a kiss as he was leaving, suggesting that alcohol had influenced his behaviour.
He emphasized that his client is not generally a reckless person and requested the court consider a lower level of severity in sentencing.
McIlravey acknowledged that the incident will have lasting repercussions for Sivewright.
Previously, the young man admitted to the sexual assault, which involved grabbing the woman's face, turning her towards him, and kissing her without consent.
Sentencing was postponed to allow Sivewright to meet with social workers, and Sheriff John Rafferty ordered nine months of supervision.
Sivewright was also placed on the sex offenders register for nine months.
