BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND THREATS
Lewis Haigh, a 22-year-old man from Bradford, has been sentenced to over three years in prison for threatening a woman and her mother in a disturbing manner.Haigh’s harassment was driven by a mistaken belief that he had begun a romantic relationship with the younger woman.
Prosecutor Adam Walker informed Bradford Crown Court that Haigh devised elaborate online stalking strategies, including creating multiple Snapchat accounts and fake profiles on social media platforms.
One of the fake profiles appeared to offer sexual services, while another gained more than 200 comments and 1,300 shares.
Haigh sent threatening communications, including messages of rape and murder, such as “There’s a bullet with your name on it...
you’re going to suffer for all of this, mark my words,” and a warning saying, “You’re going to go missing.
You won’t be seen again, I promise.” He also sent unwanted gifts, arranged for food deliveries without permission, and threatened to post revenge porn.
One victim reported feeling as if they were “prisoners” inside their own home because of his conduct.
Haigh pleaded guilty to stalking, making threats to kill, and resisting arrest.
He was sentenced by Recorder Tahir Khan KC to 40 months of incarceration and was given an indefinite restraining order to prevent any contact with the victims.
A psychiatric report revealed that Haigh exhibited some features of an emotionally unstable personality disorder, and his misconduct caused significant hardship.
The judge underlined that Haigh’s actions were calculated, malicious, and aimed at increasing fear and distress, with continued misconduct during investigations demonstrating a reckless disregard for the victims’ safety.
