LEONARD JONES, HORSE TRADER FROM HAILSHAM, SENTENCED FOR ANIMAL NEGLECT
Leonard Jones, born around 1966 and residing at Butts Field, Hailsham BN27 2BZ, was convicted in 2019 of severe neglect of a piebald mare. As a member of a well-known traveller family, Jones has now received a five-year ban from keeping or owning animals following his conviction.Jones was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the horse by failing to provide adequate parasitic control or any treatment at all. The neglect occurred between February 26 and December 28, 2018, in Hailsham. He was also convicted on an additional charge of causing unnecessary suffering to the mare by neglecting to investigate and address her poor body condition and health.
Regarding his sentencing, Leonard Jones received a 24-week prison sentence, suspended for two years. He was also subject to a six-month curfew, instructed to pay £1,250 in costs, and was banned from keeping or owning any animals for five years, a ban that will last until December 2024.
