LEON THOMPSON SENTENCED IN CHELMSLEY WOOD FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND

Leon Thompson has been sentenced to a severe eight-year prison term following a violent and unprovoked attack on his girlfriend, Danielle Perry, in Chelmsley Wood. The incident unfolded in the early hours of February 17 outside Thompson’s residence on Arden Road, a quiet street within the Birmingham suburb.

According to court reports, the assault began with Thompson delivering a forceful punch to Danielle’s face, an act that shocked those present. The violence escalated further when Thompson seized her head and forcefully smashed it through the rear window of his Peugeot 207, which was parked nearby. Despite Danielle falling to the ground, Thompson did not cease his assault. Instead, he continued to kick and stamp on her, inflicting serious injuries.

Prior to this violent episode, Thompson had publicly claimed he would never resort to violence against women. This was revealed during a conversation with friends, where Danielle reminded him of a previous incident in which he had slapped her, nearly breaking her nose. The revelation stunned those present, highlighting the contrast between his words and actions.

The attack was reportedly triggered during a drive home after an evening spent at a friend’s house. The argument that ensued quickly turned violent. Danielle later confided in hospital staff about the assault, which prompted them to notify police authorities. Thompson was arrested later that same day at Heartlands Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

During police interviews, Thompson attempted to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that Danielle had broken the car window with her bag. He offered no credible explanation for her injuries and even suggested that she might have inflicted harm upon herself. These claims were dismissed by investigators, and Thompson was formally charged with wounding.

At Birmingham Crown Court, a jury found Thompson guilty of the charges. The presiding judge described him as a danger to women, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the threat he posed.

Danielle Perry, now 27 years old, has chosen to share graphic images of her injuries publicly in an effort to raise awareness about domestic abuse. She stated, “He’d hit me about eight or nine times before. I’d been given a fat lip and bruises but each time the following day he’d always plead for forgiveness, cook me a meal and say how it’d never happen again. But it always did.”

She expressed regret for not leaving the relationship earlier, acknowledging that her situation had deteriorated over time, with threats and ongoing violence becoming more frequent. Danielle has since been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and urges other victims to seek help early. She recommends reaching out to support groups, charities, and police services for assistance.

Detective Constable Clive Leftwich commented on the case, highlighting that the judge recognized Thompson as a significant threat to women. He praised Danielle’s bravery in speaking out and sharing her story, which he said was instrumental in securing justice. The detective concluded that Thompson’s eight-year imprisonment reflects the profound suffering Danielle endured and serves as a warning to others about the consequences of domestic violence.
