A VOYEUR FROM WEST YORKSHIRE WHO SET UP A CONCEALED CAMERA IN A BATHROOM TO RECORD FEMALES HAS BEEN LOCKED UP FOR MORE THAN TWO YEARS
Leon Gresswell, aged 39 from Ovenden in Calderdale, was described by a judge at Bradford Crown Court as having engaged in conduct that was “planned, devious, and perverted”.As a result, he is now required to register as a sex offender for a decade and will be onder a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration.
The case was brought to light when a neighbour discovered Gresswell’s phone, which he had dropped in nearby woods.
Upon inspection, the neighbour found images on the device that raised concerns.
Authorities were contacted, leading to Gresswell’s police interview, during which he acknowledged taking the images and later admitted they were intended for sexual gratification.
Victims’ statements read aloud in court described feeling disgusted, dirty, and paranoid, stating that Gresswell’s actions caused them to feel as though their skin had been crawled over.
During mitigation, lawyer Michael Collins explained that individuals caught up in voyeurism often struggle emotionally to admit their crimes, and Gresswell’s delayed confession was not an attempt to evade responsibility.
Collins emphasized that Gresswell’s denial was a result of his recognition of the offence’s severity and the shame involved, acknowledging his wrongdoing.
Justice Simon Jackson KC sentenced Gresswell on four counts of voyeurism, characterising his behavior as “an entrenched pattern of deviant conduct” in which he showed neither remorse nor insight.
The judge emphasized the premeditated, devious, and perverted nature of his actions, noting that Gresswell’s conduct involved more than just what was observed it involved what he hoped to see.
The court sentenced him to 18 months concurrently for three counts and an additional eight months to be served consecutively on the fourth, totalling 26 months in prison.
