LEON CAMPBELL FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENSE INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DUNDEE

A 21-year-old man named Leon Campbell, hailing from Dundee, has been officially placed on the Sex Offenders Register following his involvement in a disturbing case involving a minor. The incident came to light after Campbell engaged in a relationship with a girl who was only 14 years old, prompting serious legal action and sentencing.

Campbell appeared before Dundee Sheriff Court, where he admitted to engaging in inappropriate communication with the young girl during the festive period. As a result of his admission, he was sentenced to a two-year supervision order, a measure designed to monitor his conduct and ensure compliance with community safety standards.

The case was brought to public attention after the girl’s mother expressed her concerns. The mother was alerted to her daughter’s relationship with Campbell after a friend of her daughter informed her about the connection. It was revealed that Campbell had initially met the girl at an LGBT-themed social event, where he was unaware of her true age at the time of their meeting.

However, once Campbell learned that the girl was only 14, he chose to continue their communication. Court documents detailed that Campbell sent her messages expressing his desire to kiss and hug her, despite knowing her age. The court was told that on December 22, the girl was reported missing by her mother. A friend of the girl then disclosed her relationship with Campbell, which prompted her mother to take action.

Following her discovery, the mother confiscated her daughter’s phone, which contained approximately 1,700 messages. These messages included evidence that the girl had told Campbell she was still attending school, and that Campbell was aware of her age but continued to message her nonetheless.

During the proceedings, Campbell’s defense lawyer, Douglas McConnell, acknowledged that his client recognized he should have ceased communication once he found out her true age. Despite this acknowledgment, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offense.

In her sentencing remarks, Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC highlighted that the case involved a sexual offense, and she ordered Campbell to be registered as a sex offender for a period of two years. Additionally, she mandated that Campbell participate in a community-based order, which includes a program requirement aimed at rehabilitation and monitoring.

The court also took into account Campbell’s personal circumstances, noting that he was 18 at the time of the incident. Nonetheless, the court made it clear that the legal consequences would include a two-year community supervision order starting from the date of the verdict, underscoring the gravity of the offense committed in Dundee.
