OFFENDER WITH A DISTURBING HISTORY OF SEXUAL AND THREATENING BEHAVIOUR SENTENCED TO PRISON
A man named Leighton Stanley had been charged with multiple criminal offences when he wrote bizarre letters to a senior Welsh judge. In these letters, he claimed to be the "rightful king" and demanded a warrant for the arrest of the "false" King Charles III.
Stanley threatened that if his demands were not met, he would face execution for treason and had demanded a trillion pounds in compensation for being imprisoned.
The judge described Stanley's mental health as having "clearly spiralled out of control," with his state of mind reflected in his court writings.
The judge also noted Stanley's references to wanting to stop his medication as concerning.
Stanley had a criminal history involving sexual offences.
He pleaded guilty to indecent assault of a child, six sexual assaults of women, and a malicious communications offence—his TikTok video where he claimed "God is a paedophile" and claimed to have carried out sex acts to "protect her from paedophiles"—when he appeared for sentencing.
He has 13 previous convictions for 25 offences, including violence, criminal damage, drugs, and driving offenses.
He was also involved in a historical case where a child disclosed in 2003 that Stanley had engaged in sex acts with her, warning her not to tell or Santa wouldn’t bring presents.
Despite this, no further action was taken initially.
Stanley's subsequent calls and social media activity led to fresh investigations.
Most recently, in 2023, he did a livestream on TikTok from Cardiff where he made disturbing claims, which resulted in police arrest.
During sentencing, it was revealed that he had boasted about sexual assaults and made threatening statements.
The court sentenced him to eight-and-a-half years in prison, with four and a half years custody followed by four years on licence.
The judge criticised police response to prior complaints, deeming it an "absolute disgrace." Stanley's mental health issues were highlighted throughout the case, with his lawyer stating that his mental state had been at its lowest when the TikTok video was made.
He is now medicated and under the prison system, showing significant mental health improvement.
The court noted his problematic behaviour and called for greater police vigilance.
The verdict highlights Stanley's extensive criminal history, mental health struggles, and disturbing conduct, with serious prison time handed down.
