GLYNNEATH MAN SENTENCED TO OVER A DECADE IN PRISON FOR RAPE AND KIDNAPPING

A man named Curtis Evans, of Gorfa Glas, Glynneath, was convicted of multiple heinous crimes including three counts of rape, intentional strangulation, stalking, kidnapping, making threats to kill, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The victim endured a campaign of severe abuse, which involved kidnapping her and threatening her life, along with repeated rapes.

Police described Evans as "a particularly nasty and dangerous character" who would have continued offending had he not been apprehended.

Despite denying guilt at trial, Evans was found guilty and received a prison sentence of three years and six months in a standard determinate term.

Additionally, he was sentenced to an extended sentence of 18 years for the rape offences, comprising a custodial period of 15 years followed by a three-year extended license period.

He is also subject to a restraining order against the victim and will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Prosecutors and police highlighted Evans's lack of regard for consent and his role in making the victim’s life a "living hell," with officers noting that his violence and threats signalled a high likelihood of further offenses if not for police intervention.

The victim was commended for her bravery in coming forward, and authorities expressed hope that her courage would allow her some peace now that Evans is imprisoned for over a decade.
