2010: MAN JAILED FOR TRYING TO KILL HIS DAUGHTER
A father who attempted to murder his teenage daughter during a drunken outburst following a pub pool competition has received a 15-year prison sentence.Lee Kelly, aged 35 and residing on Cecil Street in Walkden, assaulted his 16-year-old daughter by biting, stabbing, and punching her, in an incident the police described as “horrific.” During his fury, he also picked up the family dog and threw it against a wall.
At Manchester Crown Court, Kelly was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced accordingly.
The events leading up to the attack began on June 1, when Kelly and his daughter were shopping in Manchester before visiting a pub.
On their train journey home, Kelly physically assaulted her, hitting her in the face and biting her hand.
Later, they got off the train at Walkden and went to another pub, where Kelly continued drinking and entered a pool competition.
His rage escalated when he lost, blaming his daughter for not supporting him.
Back at their home, he struck her on the head, then retrieved a 4-inch knife from the kitchen.
Kelly attempted to stab her, forcing her to protect herself with a cushion.
Although she avoided serious injury, she was stabbed in the hand and required surgery.
She managed to hide the knife, but Kelly resumed his attack by throwing the family dog against the wall and grabbing her by the hair.
She managed to escape after Kelly ran into the kitchen and returned with a larger knife.
The teenager then flagged down a taxi, which transported her to safety.
Kelly, who denied the charges, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with an additional five years on extended license.
