LEE DAVIES FROM ERDINGTON SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY TO PUPPY IN BIRMINGHAM

In a disturbing case of animal cruelty, Lee Michael Davies, born on January 14, 1988, and previously residing in South Roundhay, Kitts Green, Birmingham, was found guilty of neglecting a young puppy in Erdington, Birmingham. As of June 2020, Davies’s address was listed as 27 Gravelly Lane, Erdington, B23 6UJ. The incident involved a 12-week-old puppy, affectionately named Daisy, who was left to endure severe pain due to a broken leg, the cause of which remains unexplained.

According to reports, Davies failed to seek veterinary assistance for Daisy after she sustained the injury. Instead, he simply wrapped her leg with a bandage he applied himself, which was insufficient to address her pain or treat the fracture properly. The neglect was brought to light when a concerned member of the public contacted the RSPCA, prompting an inspection of Davies’s residence. When inspectors arrived, they found Daisy with a makeshift bandage around her front right leg, which did little to alleviate her suffering.

RSPCA inspector Jon Ratcliffe, who led the investigation, expressed his concern over the inadequate care provided. He stated, “It was not enough to just put a bandage on poor Daisy’s leg – this would have done nothing to alleviate the pain she was clearly in. When we got her to a vet, she yelped whenever her leg was touched or manipulated. This could easily have been avoided had she just been taken to the vets which was just half-a-mile away.”

Inspector Ratcliffe emphasized the importance of prompt veterinary treatment for injured animals, especially young puppies like Daisy, who was only a few weeks old at the time of the injury. He added, “If your pet is injured in any way, it is so important to get veterinary treatment for them as soon as possible to prevent them suffering any further. Daisy was only a few weeks old when this happened. It is so sad to think that she went through this pain and suffering at the start of her life. Thankfully she has now been rehomed with a family who gives her the love and attention that she deserves.”

Following the investigation, Davies pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the puppy by neglecting her medical needs. As a result, he was sentenced to a 12-month community order, ordered to pay a total of £360 in costs and charges, and was banned from keeping any animals for three years, a ban that expired in May 2019. Daisy’s condition improved significantly after receiving proper veterinary care, and she was subsequently adopted into a caring family environment. The case highlights the critical importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for timely veterinary intervention in cases of animal injury or illness.
