DARLINGTON THUG LEE CORRIE URINATED ON FLOOR BEFORE REPEATEDLY PUNCHING PREGNANT PARTNER
A thug who grabbed his pregnant partner by the hair, dragging her to the ground and repeatedly punching her in the face has narrowly avoided prison.Lee Corrie flew into a rage when his partner told him to get out of the house when he started urinating on the carpet when he was drunk, a court heard.
The 31-year-old then attacked the victim’s sister when she came to her aid in their Darlington home.
Paul Doney, prosecuting, told Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court that Corrie had previously been abusive towards his partner during their three-year relationship before he attacked her on July 12.
He said: “He has grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the ground and started punching her.
He was standing over her and repeatedly punching her.
She eventually managed to get out and run to her mother’s home for help.” Mr Doney said the victim’s mother and sister came and he still refused to leave before grabbing hold of his partner’s hair again but she then hit him with a broom in an attempt to get him off her.
He said the defendant grabbed the broken broom and used it to hit the victim’s sister over the head.
The court heard how the first victim was left battered and bloodied by the attack and her sister was left with a lump on her head.
Corrie, of Severn Way, Darlington, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating.
Tom Morgan, mitigating, said his client had spent seven weeks on remand following his arrest and has no intention of trying to resume the relationship.
He said a charge of coercive and controlling behaviour was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following analysis of messages between the pair.
He added: “He faced a significantly different set of charges and pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.” The chairman of the magistrates’ bench sentenced Corrie to 20 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months.
He said: “After reading the pre-sentence report, it doesn’t paint you in a good light.
You don’t seem to want to accept responsibility for the assaults but you are going to be made responsible for them.” Corrie was ordered to attend 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, pay £200 in compensation and £239 in court costs.
He was also issued with a three-year restraining order.
