LAURA TATE'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY IN WYKEN AND LIVERPOOL FLAT REVEALED

In a disturbing case of neglect and cruelty, Laura Tate, born on February 2, 1989, has been found responsible for the tragic death of her pets after abandoning them in a deplorable living environment. Originally residing on Union Street in Liverpool L3, Tate had since moved to 38 MacDonald Road, Wyken, Coventry CV2 5FF, but her neglect left her animals to suffer in squalor.

The incident came to light when the property’s landlord discovered the lifeless bodies of Tate’s dog and cat on April 14, 2022, after she had vacated the premises. The animals had been left behind in a flat that was in a state of extreme filth and disrepair, with no food or water available to sustain them.

The dog, identified as Genghis, a black and white breed of bull type, was found dead in the hallway. Evidence indicated that Genghis had managed to escape from the lounge through a hole in the door, likely in a desperate attempt to find sustenance or escape the conditions. The dog was severely underweight, with ribs, spine, and hips prominently visible, and appeared to have been dead for several days, as noted by the attending veterinarian.

The cat, Tiggy, a long-haired ginger feline, was discovered among piles of rubbish in one of the bedrooms. Both animals were in advanced stages of decomposition, with photos revealing the flat covered in waste, discarded pet food bags, and debris. The scene was described as utterly repulsive, with the floor of the lounge area strewn with dried, moldy feces and no clean space to stand.

RSPCA Inspector Leanne Cooper responded to the scene and recounted her experience: “On approach to the door of the flat, I could smell a strong, foul odor reminiscent of rotting flesh. This smell intensified upon opening the door, and inside, I immediately saw a dead dog lying in the hallway. The dog was a black bull breed type, extremely underweight, with ribs, spine, and hips clearly visible. I realized I couldn’t see the dog’s eyes, which suggested it had been dead for some time and was in the stages of decomposition.”

She further described the environment: “The entire lounge floor was covered in dried feces, some of which were moldy, with no clean area to stand. There was no evidence of food or water being provided to the animals.”

The veterinarian who examined the animals concluded that both Genghis and Tiggy died of dehydration. Although the exact time of death could not be precisely determined, the absence of eyes and the state of decomposition indicated they had been dead for several days. The vet explained that the environment was unsuitable for living creatures, filled with hazards such as sharp glass shards and rusted tin cans, which compounded the animals’ suffering.

“Dehydration causes pain, disorientation, weakness, organ failure, and ultimately death,” the vet stated. “Both animals likely perished due to a lack of access to water and the intolerable living conditions.”

Following a prosecution initiated by the RSPCA, Laura Tate pleaded guilty to two charges of animal cruelty. During the court proceedings, she expressed remorse, explaining that she had moved out to live with a friend and intended to find her own place where she could retrieve her pets. She described the animals’ deaths as “heartbreaking.”

The court sentenced Tate to a 20-week prison term, suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid community service. Additionally, she was disqualified from owning any animals for ten years, a ban set to expire in October 2033.
