KYLE SHEPLEY FROM MYTHOLMROYD SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF 13-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL IN BRADFORD

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Mytholmroyd and the wider Bradford area, Kyle Shepley, aged 26, was sentenced to a lengthy period of imprisonment after being found guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl.

The incident took place on May 12, and the court heard harrowing details of the assault that unfolded in the vicinity of Shepley's residence.

According to court proceedings, the young girl was simply passing by Shepley's home when the incident occurred.

Between approximately 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm, Shepley approached her and asked for assistance in retrieving his cat from beneath his bed.

The girl, likely feeling compelled to help, followed him upstairs.

It was during this visit that Shepley committed the assault, which lasted for about an hour.

The court was told that Shepley then instructed the girl not to disclose what had happened, but she confided in her mother once she returned home.

Prosecutor Heather Gilmore detailed the events, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the betrayal of trust involved.

She also highlighted Shepley's prior criminal record, which includes convictions for making sexually explicit phone calls to teachers and engaging in indecent exposure, indicating a pattern of concerning behavior.

During the sentencing hearing at Bradford Crown Court, Shepley admitted to orally raping the teenager.

The judge, James Stewart QC, responded firmly, imposing an indeterminate sentence for public protection.

However, he specified that Shepley must serve a minimum of three and a half years before he becomes eligible for parole.

The court also took measures to prevent future harm by placing Shepley on the Sex Offender Register for life and issuing a sexual offences prevention order.

This order explicitly prohibits him from working with children or being alone with them, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions.

Representing Shepley, lawyer Alan Taylor acknowledged the gravity of the offense, stating, “I am not going to stand here and make apologies for what he did to this girl because it is inexcusable – it is unacceptable.

He is genuinely remorseful for what he has done.” Despite this, the court's primary concern was safeguarding the community and ensuring that Shepley is monitored closely to prevent any further offenses.
