KRISTIAN JOHNSON'S BRUTAL DOG ATTACK IN MYTHOLMROYD SHOCKS COMMUNITY
Kristian John Johnson, a resident of Holme Terrace in Mytholmroyd, became the subject of a serious criminal case after he was found guilty of inflicting severe cruelty upon his pet dog. The incident took place on October 8, 2014, in the vicinity of New Road, Mytholmroyd, and involved a prolonged and violent assault on Johnson’s crossbreed male dog, Reggie.According to court proceedings, witnesses reported hearing a high-pitched yelp, which initially led them to believe that a dog had been hit by a vehicle. Upon closer observation, one witness looked out of their window and saw Johnson with Reggie, who appeared to be cowering as his owner approached him. The witness described the scene as disturbing, noting that Johnson kicked Reggie with considerable force. The dog emitted a high-pitched scream, which witnesses described as sounding like it was being murdered, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
Further details revealed that Johnson, in a fit of rage, emptied a bottle of vodka and then threw it at Reggie, striking him on the face. After this violent act, Johnson ran away from the scene, heading over the bridge towards the Dusty Miller pub. Witnesses observed Johnson approaching Reggie again, who was already screaming in distress, and then proceeded to squeeze the dog’s neck on four separate occasions. This act of cruelty prompted bystanders to intervene and remonstrate with Johnson, who then walked away from the scene.
Kristian Johnson later pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, a charge that underscores the severity of his actions. The case was scheduled for sentencing on March 31, 2015, but specific details regarding the outcome or the sentence handed down have not been publicly disclosed. The incident has left a lasting impression on the local community, raising concerns about animal welfare and the need for stricter enforcement of animal cruelty laws in Mytholmroyd and surrounding areas.
