BENFLEET MONSTER KYLE PAULEY ADMITS KNIFEPOINT RAPE IN VILLA ROAD PARK
A Benfleet man has admitted raping a woman and then attacking her with a knife in a park last month.Kyle Pauley, 23, of Brook Road, attacked the woman at the Villa Road Recreation Ground on the night of Monday, September 22.
He pleaded guilty to four charges at Basildon Crown Court on Friday (October 24).
Pauley admitted two charges of rape against the woman, one charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and one count of possessing a knife in a public place.
Essex Police said the attack was reported to its officers at 10.45pm on the day in question.\nShe reported being raped and then attacked with the knife, suffering injuries which required treatment but were not life-threatening.
The incident sparked a witness appeal by the Serious Crime Directorate, although Pauley was quickly apprehended.
Senior investigating officer Detective Lydia George said at the time: "I'm acutely aware of the widespread public concern that will follow an incident like this.
Although incidents of this nature are thankfully rare in Benfleet and wider Essex, they demand our focus and utmost attention as a police force when they do occur.
That is exactly what has happened in this case.
Since it was first reported to us, we've worked hard to get to where we are now, the point of charge.
This work included the initial response, securing an arrest very quickly after the call first came into us.
It also includes our enquiries in gathering the evidence we needed to take the case to the Crown Prosecution Service, and it includes ensuring specialist support will remain in place for the woman at the heart of this matter throughout this case.
Judge Samantha Cohen was told on Friday that the victim may attend sentencing to read an impact statement.
Listing the sentencing for a two-hour hearing in January, she told Pauley: "You have pleaded guilty to extremely serious offences.
You will remain in custody."
