KYLE MCGHEE FROM MINSTEAD SENTENCED AFTER SHOCKING SEX VIDEO INCIDENT IN SOUTHAMPTON
In March 2021, a disturbing case was brought before Southampton Crown Court involving Kyle McGhee, a man from Minstead, who was accused of filming an underage girl engaged in sexual activity. The incident, which took place in Romsey on July 1, 2018, has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the offense and the subsequent legal proceedings.According to court reports, McGhee, then 17 years old and working in the hospitality industry, recorded a video of a 15-year-old girl during a private moment. The court heard that McGhee later shared this footage with four individuals, displaying a troubling sense of pride in his actions. The prosecution's case was supported by statements from the girl herself, who later requested that McGhee delete the video, indicating her discomfort and distress.
During police interviews, McGhee admitted to filming the explicit content. Prosecutor Michael Forster detailed that McGhee described the incident as a moment of foolishness, claiming, “She was loving it and it was just a laugh. It was one of my idiot moments.” This casual attitude towards a serious criminal act was a key point in the case.
Initially, McGhee was arrested on suspicion of rape, but charges were not pursued in that regard. Instead, he faced charges related to the possession of an indecent photograph of a child. McGhee pleaded guilty to this charge, which marked a significant development in the case. His defense lawyer, John Dyer, highlighted McGhee’s complex background, noting that he was born with foetal drug syndrome, which affected his cognitive development. Dyer also pointed out that McGhee was adopted and emphasized his immaturity at the time of the offense.
McGhee’s criminal record includes previous convictions for three counts of assault by beating, one count of using threatening and abusive language, as well as drug and driving offenses. These prior convictions painted a picture of a young man with a troubled history.
Judge Nicholas Rowland sentenced McGhee to 15 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for 18 months. As part of his rehabilitation, McGhee is required to complete 40 days of structured activities and perform 150 hours of unpaid community service, aiming to address his behavior and prevent future offenses.
