KRAIG SIMPSON CAUGHT FILMING WOMEN IN BUCKIE AND ABERDEEN CLOTHING STORES

In a disturbing incident that took place in Aberdeen and Buckie, a man named Kraig Simpson, aged 32, was caught engaging in highly inappropriate and illegal behavior involving the filming of women in changing rooms. The incident in Aberdeen occurred at the River Island store located within Union Square shopping center in July of the previous year, leading to serious legal consequences for Simpson.

According to reports presented at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, a teenage girl was shopping at the River Island store when she decided to try on some clothes in the fitting rooms. During her time in the cubicle, she became aware of a phone being pointed into her space from an adjacent cubicle. Initially, she thought the device might have been dropped or misplaced, but her suspicions grew when she noticed the same phone again shortly afterward. Her concern turned to alarm when she realized she was being filmed.

In a moment of distress, the girl shouted out, alerting nearby staff and other shoppers. At that point, Simpson was seen emerging from the changing room from which the phone was originating. The girl immediately identified him, stating, “He just videoed me.”

Simpson then fled the scene, but security personnel at Union Square quickly responded and managed to track him down. Police officers were called to the scene, and Simpson was detained. During the arrest, officers seized a black Samsung mobile phone, which the teenage girl confirmed was the same device she had seen pointed into her cubicle. CCTV footage was reviewed, revealing Simpson entering the changing rooms and placing his phone in a position to record women while they were in various stages of undress.

Simpson, who resides on Bryson Crescent in Buckie, was charged with and subsequently pleaded guilty to the offense of recording females in changing rooms without their consent. The court heard that he had intentionally placed his mobile phone within a space occupied by women in a state of undress, violating their privacy and personal boundaries.

Although a two-year supervision order was imposed on Simpson in September 2020, the court had deferred sentencing until the following day to allow for reports and for Simpson to be present in person. Unfortunately, the reports were not ready at the time of the hearing, and the case remains pending further proceedings.
