KIRSTY BARR
She had initially claimed that Ryan Kerrison had subjected her to repeated physical and mental abuse, allegations which led to Kerrison spending almost two months in prison.
Ryan Kerrison, who is a drug and alcohol support practitioner, describes his experience as a traumatic ordeal.
He spent 56 days in custody after Barr accused him of abuse, and during this time, his life was turned upside down.
Kerrison recounted how he couldn’t even bring himself to say her name, calling her simply the "perpetrator," after her lies started to destroy his reputation and life.
He stated: "I don’t have any photos of my perpetrator.
I got rid of them all when her lies started." He also shared that Barr, 24, told police and later national newspapers that he had committed acts of physical and emotional abuse, painting him as a violent man with a "devious and malicious agenda to try and ruin his life." The police, however, found that the evidence did not support her claims.
Ryan met Barr in late 2014, and at the beginning, he saw her as a fun, outgoing person.
But their relationship deteriorated, with Kerrison leaving her home in Hull in December 2017.
After their breakup, Barr falsely claimed that he had attacked her in her home, leading him to plead guilty to assault by beating at Hull Magistrates' Court on her advice, and he was fined and given a restraining order.
Barr then escalated her lies, falsely alleging in December 2018 that Kerrison had chased her, assaulted her, and even threatened her with a gun, which resulted in armed police arresting him.
Evidence proved he was innocent, and Barr was later charged with perverting the course of justice.
In October 2022, Barr was sentenced to imprisonment for her role.
Kerrison expressed his feelings that Barr’s false accusations were her way of "getting her own back" and that she did not like him moving on.
He hopes that sharing his story will highlight the damage false allegations can do, especially to men.
Ryan Kerrison is now advocating for awareness through his TikTok channel and is calling for greater support for men facing similar false accusations.
The police and local authorities have publicly condemned Barr, with Humberside Police describing her as manipulative and malicious, having portrayed Kerrison as a violent criminal to the entire country.
Kerrison suffers from emotional and mental trauma from the false allegations, and he hopes to help others facing similar situations.
