DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR LIVING NIGHTMARES FOLLOWING SEXUAL ASSAULT
Kieran Edwards, 28, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, backdated to February 21, for following and attacking a woman in Dundee.
He was convicted after CCTV footage showed him running down Blinshall Street, unmasked, after the assault near Dudhope Park on February 12.
Edwards, dressed in dark clothing and wearing a face covering, targeted the woman in the early hours.
The woman, who had taken sleeping medication and was arguing with her partner, was indecently touched and thrown to the ground by Edwards.
He denied the assault, claiming he was helping the woman, but the jury saw through his lies.
Edwards was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and a five-year non-harassment order was imposed.
Sheriff Carmichael emphasized the need for a custodial sentence due to the predatory behavior.
Edwards had previous convictions, including a 27-month sentence in 2017 for a stun gun assault in Arbroath and a near prison escape in 2019 related to a pub raid.
He appeared via video link from HMP Perth.
The court ruled that public disapproval warranted the custodial sentence and the sex offenders register penalty.
