KIERAN ALEXANDER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ATTACK IN GREAT YARMOUTH AND LOWESTOFT

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, Kieran Alexander, aged 21, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a teenage girl. The incident, which took place in January 2007, involved a brutal and repeated sexual assault on a 15-year-old girl, after he forcibly dragged her into an alleyway in Lowestoft.

According to court reports, Alexander initially approached his young victim from behind on Windsor Road. He then threatened her with a knife, a detail that underscored the terrifying nature of the attack. The court heard that Alexander held the girl against her will, subjected her to a series of degrading sexual acts, and left her emotionally scarred. Judge Neil McKittrick described the assault as 'appalling' and emphasized the severity of the crime, stating that the girl, a virgin, was effectively kidnapped and used solely for Alexander’s gratification.

During sentencing, Judge McKittrick expressed his outrage at the incident, remarking, “A 15-year-old girl was simply walking home from a youth club, an activity as routine as any other. It is incomprehensible that such an innocent act could result in her becoming a victim of such distasteful and obscene crimes.” The judge further condemned Alexander’s actions, highlighting the degrading, embarrassing, and demeaning nature of the assault, which left the young girl traumatized.

In addition to the assault, the court considered Alexander’s previous conduct. It was revealed that in March of the previous year, he had attempted to attack another woman in Great Yarmouth. On that occasion, he grabbed her from behind, tried to pull her into an alleyway, and placed his arm around her neck while covering her eyes. The woman fought back and managed to escape. Alexander was convicted of common assault for this incident. Although this earlier attack did not involve sexual assault, Judge McKittrick noted that the circumstances bore striking similarities to the recent case, and he considered this history highly relevant in assessing the danger Alexander posed to the public.

As part of his sentence, Alexander was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely. He was also subjected to restrictions preventing him from having contact with children under 16 and was disqualified from working with minors. At the time of the attack, Alexander was residing at the Phoenix House hostel on Kirkley Cliff Road in Lowestoft, having previously lived in Gorleston.

The prosecution, led by Kate Stephenson, detailed the horrifying sequence of events. Alexander reportedly told his victim to be a good girl and threatened her with a knife. He then covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming and dragged her into an alleyway, where he forcibly removed her clothing and repeatedly raped her. During the assault, a passing car caused him to temporarily cover her with a coat and silence her further, but he continued his attack. Before fleeing, Alexander searched her coat pockets and stole her mobile phone, warning her not to move and claiming he would be watching her.

The girl managed to run home, where her mother found her with her trousers around her ankles and her clothes in disarray. A subsequent search of Alexander’s room at the hostel uncovered her mobile phone hidden beneath a pile of clothing. Forensic analysis confirmed the presence of his DNA in semen found in the girl’s hair, providing crucial evidence linking him to the crime.

Following the attack, the girl’s life was profoundly affected. She became fearful of going out alone and has been sleeping with her mother for safety. The case has drawn widespread condemnation, and the lengthy sentence aims to serve as a warning to others about the consequences of such appalling crimes.
