KEVIN WRIGHT AND JULIE OGG FROM HEATON-BRADFORD SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

In a deeply disturbing case that has shocked the community of Heaton-Bradford, Kevin Wright and Julie Ogg faced the full weight of justice for their involvement in heinous crimes against a young girl. The proceedings, which culminated in a series of severe sentences, revealed the extent of the abuse inflicted upon vulnerable children and the disturbing complicity of multiple adults.

Kevin Wright, aged 38, was sentenced to a lengthy 18-year prison term after being convicted of multiple charges related to the sexual assault of a young girl. The court heard that Wright, a resident of Portwood Street in Heaton, Bradford, was involved in a series of appalling acts that left the victim emotionally scarred for life. His conviction followed a trial at Bradford Crown Court, where he pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape and two charges of gross indecency. Despite his denial, the jury found him guilty based on the evidence presented.

Julie Ogg, a woman from Bradford, was also convicted in connection with the case. She was found guilty of two charges of child cruelty and received a sentence of 18 months in prison. Her involvement in the case was characterized by the court as particularly serious, given the nature of her crimes and the impact on the young victims. Ogg’s actions, which included child cruelty, were deemed to have contributed to the trauma experienced by the children involved.

The case also involved the tragic testimony of an older girl who witnessed the horrific acts. She recounted how she was forced to watch as three men—Kevin Wright, Alan Morrison, and the late Graham Blowers—gang-raped the young girl. The older girl described how she was physically assaulted if she attempted to look away, and how the perpetrators laughed at her distress. The court was told that the other men held the young girl down during these assaults, adding to the brutality of the crimes.

Alan Morrison, aged 48, was previously serving an 18-year sentence for attempted murder, having shot a man believed to have sexually abused a young girl in Brighouse. Morrison’s history of violence and his recent conviction for child rape painted a picture of a man considered a significant threat to public safety. Despite his absence from the trial and sentencing proceedings, the court emphasized the seriousness of his crimes and the potential danger he posed.

Judge Scott Wolstenholme, presiding over the case at Leeds Crown Court, described the offences as “dreadful” and committed over an extended period, involving very vulnerable children. He highlighted the disturbing fact that other adults, including Morrison and Wright, were involved in the sexual abuse, which compounded the wickedness of the crimes. The judge expressed deep concern about the emotional damage inflicted on the victims, noting that they would likely carry the scars for the rest of their lives.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Wolstenholme stated that Morrison was considered a “very serious risk to the public” and would not be eligible for parole until he had served a minimum of nine years. However, he cautioned that Morrison would not be released until the Parole Board was satisfied that he no longer posed a danger, emphasizing that the timeline was uncertain. The judge also considered the possibility of a life sentence but ultimately decided on the current terms, given Morrison’s history and the severity of the offences.

Kevin Wright’s case was similarly grave, with the judge contemplating a life sentence due to the nature of his crimes. David Potts, aged 60, received a 12-year sentence for his involvement, with the court noting that he was not involved in group offences, which was seen as a mitigating factor.

Detective Constable Suzanna Jones of the Child and Public Protection Unit in Bradford was praised for her professionalism during the investigation. After the sentencing, she expressed her hope that the sentences would help the victims begin to recover from their trauma. She also commended their bravery in giving evidence under difficult circumstances, emphasizing that the justice system had taken their suffering seriously and delivered appropriate punishment for the offenders.
