KEVIN WOGDEN'S VIOLENT OUTBURST IN HASLINGDEN ON NEW YEAR'S EVE

A celebration that was meant to mark the arrival of the New Year took a dark turn in Haslingden, culminating in a violent incident that left a woman injured and a man facing legal consequences.

According to court records, Kevin Wogden, aged 41, of West View in Haslingden, was involved in a domestic altercation with his partner following their New Year’s Eve festivities. The couple had gone home after celebrating and had gone to sleep, but tensions remained unresolved. The following morning, an argument erupted, during which Wogden punched his partner after she had pushed him. This act of violence was serious enough to warrant legal action.

Wogden subsequently admitted to assaulting his partner during the court proceedings. Magistrates' Court heard that the incident was precipitated by the push, which led Wogden to respond with a punch to her head. The assault left the woman visibly distressed, with witnesses noting she was crying when police arrived. She also had a lump on her temple, and although she was taken to hospital for a scan, no fractures or bony injuries were detected.

Prosecutor Scott Parker outlined the case, emphasizing that the incident was a direct consequence of the couple’s unresolved disagreements from the previous night. Wogden pleaded guilty to the assault, acknowledging that his partner had pushed him first, which prompted his physical response.

In mitigation, defense solicitor Philippa Curtis expressed Wogden’s remorse for his actions. She noted that the incident was linked to the celebrations and that Wogden has since reduced his alcohol consumption, indicating a desire to change his behavior.

As part of his sentence, Wogden was subjected to a 12-month community order, which includes a requirement to complete 20 hours of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he was issued a 12-month restraining order to prevent any contact with his partner. The court also ordered him to pay costs amounting to £85 and a victim surcharge of £114, reflecting the seriousness of the offense and the need for accountability.
