KEVIN MCCORKINDALE FROM NEWQUAY SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES

In a case heard at Truro Magistrates Court, Kevin Alexander McCorkindale, aged 42 and residing in Newquay, was found guilty of serious charges related to child pornography. The court was informed that McCorkindale had downloaded explicit images of children from the Internet onto his mobile phone and subsequently sent some of these images via text message to a female acquaintance.

The prosecution revealed that McCorkindale pleaded guilty to 25 specimen charges, which collectively involved approximately 300 images. Of these, fewer than 20 images were actually transmitted to the woman, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons. The court heard that among the charges, McCorkindale admitted to 13 counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child, as well as eight counts of distributing such images.

The severity of the images was emphasized during the proceedings, with the prosecutor, Simon Jones, explaining that the images ranged across the entire severity scale used by authorities, from level 1 to level 5, with level 5 being the most serious. The images depicted children in highly inappropriate and pornographic contexts, which the court described as extremely disturbing.

Details of the case indicated that McCorkindale’s arrest occurred in September 2007. Following his apprehension, he was granted bail and was expected to return to Newquay police station. However, he chose to evade authorities and went on the run for approximately a year and a half. It was only after an appeal on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme that McCorkindale surrendered himself to the police in early February.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that McCorkindale had come into contact with the female victim through her work, and they had developed a friendship. Their relationship deteriorated during a holiday, and it was during this period that the woman’s young child regarded McCorkindale as “an uncle.”

The prosecution highlighted that the images sent by McCorkindale to the woman were of a highly disturbing and pornographic nature involving children. In his police statement, McCorkindale admitted that he had been intoxicated at the time of downloading the images and that he sent them to the woman with the intent to offend her. It was also noted that McCorkindale suffers from alcoholism and depression, and he had no previous criminal convictions.

As the case concluded, the court considered the gravity of the offenses committed by McCorkindale, who now faces the consequences of his actions for his involvement in the distribution and creation of child pornography.
