MAN ON SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER AFTER SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO UNDERAGE GIRL
A COUNTY man has been placed on the sex offenders' register following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.Kevin Maloney faced the trial after pleading not guilty to an offence of sending sexual written communications to an underage teenage girl.
The allegations stated that Maloney repeatedly sent text messages to the child, who was aged between 13 and 16 at the time, in which he uttered sexual remarks.
He was also said to have asked the schoolgirl about her relationships and made repeated comments about her appearance, all between July 8 and 15 last year.
The 35-year-old, of Quality Street, North Berwick, denied the charges but, following a trial in front of Sheriff Julius Komorowski, he was found guilty of the offence.
A second allegation of possessing a knife on September 1 last year at Haugh Beach in North Berwick was found to be not proven.
Sheriff Komorowski placed Maloney on the sex offenders' register on an interim basis and deferred full sentence to a date in March.
