KEVIN LEVERS FROM ILKESTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE VIDEOS IN DERBYSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Ilkeston, Kevin Levers, a 64-year-old resident of Milton Road, was found to have downloaded and possessed highly disturbing child abuse videos. The incident came to light in May 2022 when Derbyshire police conducted a search at his home following specific intelligence linking his internet activity to the possession of these vile materials.

Authorities had received credible information indicating that an internet address associated with Levers was being used to access and download indecent images of children. During the police investigation, it was revealed that Levers had deliberately failed to disclose the presence of a particular laptop, which was used to access these illegal videos, to his offender manager. This omission was a breach of a court order, which he was legally obliged to follow due to previous offences.

Rebecca Coleman, prosecuting, outlined that Levers had a prior conviction from Nottingham Crown Court in 2014, where he received a suspended sentence for possessing indecent images of children. As part of his sentence, he was subject to a sexual offences protection order, now known as a sexual harm prevention order, which mandated that he inform authorities about any electronic devices capable of internet access.

On March 5 of the same year, police responded to reports that Levers was accessing indecent images online at his Ilkeston address. During the search, officers seized an Asus laptop, which was subsequently examined. The forensic analysis uncovered two categories of illegal content: one was a Category B moving image depicting a female toddler aged between two and six, and the other was a Category C video showing a female child aged six to ten. These findings confirmed the illegal nature of his online activity.

Levers pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent images of children and breaching the terms of his sexual offences protection order. His criminal record includes eight previous convictions, highlighting a pattern of offending behavior.

Judge Jonathan Bennett sentenced Levers to eight months in prison and imposed a new 10-year sexual harm prevention order to prevent further offences. During the sentencing, the judge expressed his disapproval of Levers' claim that he had forgotten about the laptop, stating, “I do not accept what you said to the probation officer that you had forgotten about that laptop.” The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from harm.
