MAN JAILED FOR 22 YEARS FOR NON-RECENT SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
Kevin Hawkins, aged 65 and residing on Daines Road in Billericay, appeared in Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, 20 June, where he was sentenced to a term of 22 years after a jury found him guilty of multiple sexual crimes.The case was initiated by an Essex Police investigation that began in March 2021, following a report from a woman claiming she had been sexually assaulted by Hawkins during the 1980s.
Hawkins was detained and subsequently released on bail as detectives conducted a thorough investigation.
During the early stages of inquiry, five additional individuals came forward, alleging they had been sexually abused by Hawkins as children.
The oldest reported incident dates back to 1973.
Hawkins was arrested in connection with these allegations and charged with 19 counts, including rape and other sexual offences involving children as young as seven years old.
After a trial at Basildon Crown Court, Hawkins was convicted on 16 February of 16 sexual offences, among them counts of rape of a person under 16 and five counts of indecent assault.
He was acquitted on three other counts pertaining to three different individuals.
On Thursday, 20 June, Hawkins was sentenced to serve 22 years in prison following his conviction.
