NEILSTON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER ORDERED TO KEEP DISTANCE OR FACE JAIL

A “serial domestic offender” named Kevin Gresham has been warned to behave properly or risk serving up to five years in prison after calling his partner a “stupid b***h”.

He was arrested after a night out in Glasgow on December 29 last year, when he was heavily intoxicated and began shouting and swearing at her over her inability to find keys to her house.

Witnesses reported hearing him call her derogatory names such as ‘f*****g a******e’.

Police officers responded to a call from a concerned member of the public overhearing the disturbance and took Gresham into custody.

According to the prosecutor, both Gresham and his partner returned home from Glasgow in a taxi, both heavily intoxicated.

Outside her property, he intensified his aggression, shouting at her and telling her she was a “stupid b***h”, blaming her for the situation, which caused distress to others nearby who called the police.

Gresham was arrested at the scene and taken to Helen Street police station, where he did not respond to caution and charge.

The court heard that Gresham has previous convictions for domestic violence in 2022 and 2023 and was already on a deferred sentence, attending a social work programme similar to the Caledonian men’s project.

His lawyer stated that he has been complying with the programme and finds it helpful.

The woman involved did not support the idea of a non-harassment order, but the sheriff ordered a three-year non-harassment order, emphasizing that it was necessary considering Gresham’s previous offences, which include convictions for sexual assault and road traffic matters, with this being his third substantial domestic violence offence.

Sheriff McGinty explained that the order was meant to prevent Gresham from causing her further alarm or distress, and warned that breaching the order could result in a maximum of five years imprisonment.

Gresham was ordered to stay of good behaviour for six months and will return to court on December 15 for a further hearing.
