KEVIN EDGE FROM WIDNES SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS FOR BITING BABY'S FINGER IN SHOCKING INCIDENT

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Widnes, Kevin Edge has been sentenced to two years in prison following a brutal assault on a one-year-old boy under his care. The incident, which occurred in June of the previous year, was brought to light during a court hearing at Warrington Crown Court on a recent Friday.

According to court records, Kevin Edge, aged 23 and residing on Hilary Close in Widnes, was responsible for looking after his girlfriend’s son at the time of the attack. The court heard that during this period, Edge inflicted a bite on the child's finger as a misguided attempt to discipline or teach the boy a lesson. The child, who was only one year old at the time, responded by biting Edge back, an act that was later used as evidence of the incident.

Later that same day, the child's mother took him to a medical facility after he developed a high temperature. It was during this examination that healthcare staff noticed distinctive teeth marks on the child's shoulder, which raised suspicions about the cause of the injury. Despite the evidence, Edge, who was described as a paternal figure to the young boy, initially denied any knowledge of the wound when questioned by police authorities.

The court proceedings revealed the heartbreaking aftermath of the incident. The child, now three years old, was removed from his mother’s care by social services and spent a total of ten months in foster care, including his second birthday. During ongoing family court proceedings, Edge continued to deny any involvement or knowledge of the injuries sustained by the child. It was only in October that he admitted, via a text message, to having bitten the boy, ultimately pleading guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).

In a poignant statement, the child's mother expressed her anguish, stating that she would never regain the time lost while her son was in care. She also revealed that she is currently undergoing treatment for anxiety and now finds it difficult to trust others with her child's safety. The court noted that she was under suspicion for the attack but did not face charges herself.

During the court hearing, Kevin Edge was unrepresented. When Judge Nicholas Woodward questioned him about his actions, Edge broke down in tears, saying, “I just want to make it right. I’ve hurt my son and my family.” Despite this display of remorse, the judge criticized Edge for his failure to admit responsibility earlier and sentenced him to the maximum penalty of two years in prison. Judge Woodward emphasized the severity of the case, stating, “It’s extremely damaging for the child to be removed in these circumstances. This child went into care absolutely needlessly. It is impossible to say what the ramifications are.” The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Widnes, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the devastating consequences of neglect and abuse.
