BRADFORD MAN JAILED FOR TERRIFYING ASSAULT AND RECKLESS DRIVING
A mother from Bradford feared she would be run over and killed when she went outside in her pyjamas and flip-flops to assist her daughter. The daughter was sitting in her ex-partner’s Renault Clio outside their family home when Kesser Ahmad, age 24, lost his temper and repeatedly punched her in the face, resulting in a broken nose.
Bradford Crown Court was told that the mother came out after hearing her daughter scream and cry, and she tried to stop the assault by placing her hand on Ahmad’s shoulder through the open driver’s window.
Ahmad then seized her left arm and held onto her as he drove away, increasing the vehicle’s speed.
The mother ran alongside the car but ultimately managed to free herself just before Ahmad sped off with her injured and bloodied daughter inside.
Ahmad drove in a reckless manner for roughly three miles before stopping, drawing the attention of nearby residents.
He then fled the scene; the mother later required surgery under local anesthesia to realign her broken nose.
During the trial, Ahmad claimed that his ex-partner had caused her own nose injury by smashing her face against the car’s dashboard.
He was convicted of assaulting both his former partner and her mother, and also admitted to driving the Clio while disqualified and without insurance.
The mother’s victim impact statement detailed serious injury to her left arm and a CT scan to check for potential brain injury.
She described the incident as “absolutely terrifying” and feared she was going to be dragged under the car and killed.
Ahmad had no prior violent offences and had previously spent nearly a year in custody on remand.
Recorder Catherine Silverton sentenced him to 30 months’ imprisonment for the assaults, with an additional two months for driving while disqualified.
He was also disqualified from driving for 26 months and ordered to adhere to a five-year restraining order preventing contact with the two women.
