BRISTOL POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR ON-DUTY SEX
A 26-year-old former officer of the Bristol police force, Kenny Lewis, has received a four-year prison sentence after admitting to numerous sexual misconduct offenses. He pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual misconduct and two counts of using police databases to locate women.
Despite this, he was found not guilty of three rape charges and one additional misconduct allegation.
The presiding judge, Graham Cottle, characterized Lewis’s behavior as a systematic assault on vulnerable women, with one victim describing an incident that was “little short of rape.” Lewis’s approach involved identifying women involved in various criminal cases—whether as witnesses, victims, or suspects—and falsely claiming that he needed to carry out further inquiries, thereby coercing women into sexual acts.
In a police interview video, a woman aged 33 recounted how Lewis restrained her twice using handcuffs and made an unsettling comment: “There is no point opening your mouth.
No one is going to listen to a stripper.” Throughout his tenure, Lewis engaged in sexual activities with four women while on duty and used confidential police files to track women considered vulnerable.
The court highlighted that, despite some acquittals on rape charges, the pattern of his conduct was unmistakable: he targeted women systematically for personal sexual gratification.
Victims expressed their appreciation for the courage it took to come forward, while police officials condemned his breach of trust.
Lewis had resigned from the Avon and Somerset police in December 2008.
