KENNETH POLLARD FROM CLEADON AND MARSHALL CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE AND ANIMAL SEX IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of South Tyneside and Merseyside, Kenneth Pollard, a 60-year-old resident of Cleadon and later associated with Marshall, was found to possess highly illegal and disturbing material on his personal computer. The investigation revealed that Pollard had accessed and downloaded a significant amount of child abuse and bestiality content, sparking serious concern among law enforcement officials and the public alike.According to court proceedings, authorities uncovered that Pollard had downloaded approximately 1,000 images and videos that are classified among the most severe categories of illegal pornography. These materials included explicit content involving children and animals, with some of the images dating back to 2011. The material was described as being of an extreme nature, highlighting the severity of the offense. When police officers visited his residence in May of the previous year, Pollard did not deny his involvement. Instead, he pointed directly to his laptop and openly admitted to downloading the illegal content, stating, “There is no point in denying it. The images are on there.”
He further confessed, “I like that sort of thing. I have been doing it for about three years,” revealing a troubling pattern of behavior. His address at the time was listed as Marsden Lane, Cleadon, but during the court proceedings, the location was updated to Hall Laws, Marshall, Merseyside, reflecting his current residence.
Pollard pleaded guilty to possessing the illegal material, which prompted a sentencing hearing at Newcastle Crown Court. Judge Simon Hickey sentenced him to 12 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years. The judge emphasized that Pollard would be subject to supervision and required to participate in a sex offender group work program. In his remarks, Judge Hickey acknowledged Pollard’s previous service to the community, which he said had played a role in avoiding immediate imprisonment. “You are entitled, just this once, to draw on your impeccable character. It effectively saved you today,” the judge stated.
He also made it clear that the possession of such images fuels a harmful and illegal trade, emphasizing that without viewers like Pollard, this revolting industry could not continue. As part of his sentence, Pollard will be required to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years and must adhere to a sexual offences prevention order for five years. The court was also informed that Pollard’s defense team had submitted references attesting to his good character prior to the sentencing.
Julian Smith, representing Pollard, explained to the court that his client understood the gravity of his actions and the predicament he faced. Despite the mitigating factors presented, the court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated, reflecting the ongoing efforts to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and exploitative material.
