CARDIFF OFFENDER KENNETH MCGONAGLE SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A violent offender named Kenneth McGonagle has been convicted of attacking his partner on two occasions while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.The incidents involved terrifying and violent behavior, including threats to kill and serious physical assault.
In the first incident, which took place on May 11 last year, McGonagle arrived home intoxicated, with signs of aggression, including frothing at the mouth and dark eyes, and accused his partner of cheating.
He punched her violently, causing her to lose consciousness, and made harrowing threats such as threatening to 'cut off her head' and 'finish her off.' The victim suffered injuries including bruises and head trauma.
Despite being released on bail with conditions not to contact her, McGonagle later returned to her home, where he assaulted her further, shoving her into a sink, grabbing her by the throat, and resulting in a spiral fracture to her arm.
He was arrested and later pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard he has previous convictions for assaulting former partners and rape.
Judge Shomon Khan sentenced him to three years in prison with an extended two-year license and imposed an indefinite restraining order.
