He had reportedly dragged her around by her hair and subjected her to a brutal beating.
When arrested, Chisholm admitted his guilt, stating "I shouldn't have brayed her," but also displayed aggressive behavior towards police officers, kicking two officers at the station and threatening their chins.
He also took the woman's phone to prevent her from calling for help, demonstrating controlling behavior.
He was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of assaulting emergency workers.
At Durham Crown Court, the judge sentenced him to 21 months in prison, citing his lack of remorse and the fact that the attack occurred when his partner was vulnerable and struggling with her mother’s recent suicide.
The court highlighted her fear and the severity of her injuries, with the judge stating, "You hit her with a chair leg.
She told you she was pregnant and you punched her and strangled her to the point she passed out."
