KENNETH ANBANY'S CRIMES IN DARTMOUTH, EXETER, SLOUGH, AND STOCKPORT REVEALED

In a series of disturbing revelations, Kenneth Anbany, a former teacher with a troubling history of sexual misconduct, has been convicted and sentenced for heinous crimes committed across multiple locations including Dartmouth, Exeter, Slough, and Stockport.

Back in April 2011, Anbany, aged 63 and residing in Stockport, Greater Manchester, was sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of raping a pupil during his tenure at Dartmouth Community College in the 1980s. The court heard that the assault took place after a school disco event, where Anbany, who was acting in a policing capacity at the event, encountered the young girl as she exited the toilets. The victim, who later came forward to authorities, recounted her naive decision to approach his car, intending to tell him to stop bothering her. Instead of a simple conversation, Anbany drove her to a secluded lane nearby and committed the assault.

The victim’s decision to speak out was prompted by her awareness of another incident involving Anbany, which was reported in 2009. This led her to reveal her own traumatic experience. The court also learned that Anbany had a child with a teenage girl he met at a school in Berkshire, adding to the pattern of his inappropriate relationships.

During the proceedings, Judge Graham Cottle addressed Anbany directly, stating, “Your past has finally caught up with you. You must receive the punishment that you have for too long been able to avoid.” The court’s findings painted a picture of a man whose misconduct spanned decades and multiple institutions.

In addition to his time in Dartmouth, Anbany also worked at Baylis Court Girls School in Slough, Berkshire, from 1990 to 1994. His criminal record further includes a 2009 conviction for sexual abuse, where he was initially spared jail time after admitting to driving an underage pupil to Haldon Forest in Devon and attempting to initiate sexual contact. The police believe there may be more victims, and they are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Detective Constable Nicci Bailey of the Devon and Cornwall police’s child abuse unit described Anbany as someone who portrayed himself as “Mr Friendly” to teenage girls, often behaving as if he wanted to be their friend, disregarding appropriate boundaries. Her statement underscores the manipulative nature of his conduct, which included flirting, hugging, touching, and explicit propositions when the victims were as young as 14 and 15.

Specifically, when the girl was 15, Anbany offered to drive her away from school after she was upset, secretly closing classroom blinds to avoid detection. He took her to Haldon Forest, where he attempted to kiss her and made inappropriate comments such as “You want it, come on,” when she refused. He then suggested they could have sex in the back of his car, again being rejected. Despite her refusals, he continued to press her, telling her she was “the most amazing girl I’ve ever met,” and later asked if he could take her away for the weekend and feel her chest. He also told her not to tell anyone, warning that both of them could get into trouble and that nobody would believe her.

The girl was so distressed by the incident that she vomited upon returning home and confided in her family. Following his arrest, Anbany admitted to driving her away from school but denied any inappropriate behavior, claiming he felt sick at the thought. His last known address was Venn Court in Brixton, Plymouth, but he has since moved to the Manchester area.

In recent legal developments, Anbany changed his plea in court to admit causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, along with two charges of sexual activity with a child. He had previously denied eight sexual offenses involving three other female pupils under 16 at the school. His defense argued that he had no prior criminal record, expressed remorse, and had not worked since his arrest due to poor health.

Judge Ian Pringle QC imposed strict conditions, including a five-year ban from working with children, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, and mandatory registration on the Sex Offenders Register. Anbany was also ordered to attend a sex offender rehabilitation scheme and remain under supervision.

Authorities, including Detective Constable Bailey, are actively seeking additional victims or witnesses who may have encountered Anbany’s misconduct at other schools, including his teaching roles in Dartmouth from 1984 to 1989 and in Plymouth from 1994 to 1996, where he taught subjects such as maths, PE, and photography. They encourage anyone with relevant information to contact the Child Abuse Investigation Unit at 08452 777 444, leaving a message for Detective Constable Bailey.
